Citipost Mail | The Tate

How we save The Tate Gallery a significant margin on their postage costs, year on year.

The Client:

The Tate Gallery, a prominent art institution in the UK, encompasses four major galleries: Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool, and Tate St Ives. Renowned for its extensive collection of British and international contemporary art, Tate offers a dynamic array of exhibitions and educational programs. To keep art enthusiasts engaged and informed, Tate also publishes a quarterly magazine, providing over 140,000 UK and International subscribers with insightful articles, exclusive interviews, and previews of upcoming exhibitions. This publication serves as a valuable resource for art lovers to stay connected with the vibrant world of contemporary art showcased at Tate.

Context:

For the past three years, we have partnered with the Tate Gallery, managing their mail downstream access after securing the contract through a public tender. Leveraging our expertise in the mail industry, we’ve ensured the Tate benefits from optimal pricing for their UK and global mailings by utilising available incentives and guiding them in adapting their mail packs to meet Royal Mail specifications.

Our Approach:

Initially, we worked closely with the Tate Gallery’s marketing team to identify ways to maximize their return on investment by optimizing their mail packs and delivery processes. Our industry expertise enabled us to recommend presenting their marketing mail runs in trays, leading to an immediate and substantial cost reduction.

When Royal Mail incorrectly applied reversion charges to their advertising mail, our client services team stepped in to support the Tate in reversing these charges. Drawing on our in-depth knowledge of Royal Mail guidelines, we successfully reclaimed the charges and ensured all future mailings were approved as “advertising mail,” significantly lowering postage costs and improving ROI.

Additionally, we applied for the Royal Mail Publishing Volume Commitment incentive on behalf of the Tate Gallery. This successful application resulted in thousands of pounds worth of savings on their marketing mail campaigns.

The Outcome:

Today, the Tate Gallery dispatches over 140,000 copies of their quarterly marketing publication within the UK through our services, along with 7,000 copies sent internationally using our global mailing solutions. Our collaboration has delivered substantial annual savings on their marketing mail, enabling the Tate to reinvest in additional marketing initiatives to enhance brand awareness and grow their subscription base.

What Our Customer Says:

”Citipost’s insights and recommendations led to substantial cost reductions at the beginning of our partnership, and they have continued to seek out further savings and fight for lower charges on our behalf. We look forward to continued collaboration with Citipost over the coming years.”
